The Reservoir Story

Castle Carrock Waterworks opened on July 22nd 1909 to supply Carlisle with a fresh supply of drinking water - the result of 6 years of hard labour by 700 navvies, over a decade of municipal argument, and a visionary design. Rumour has it that a dozen different places for thirsty diggers to drink away their toil sprung up in the village.

Tom Speight and Ian K Brown present "The Reservoir Story". A tale of intrigue, argument and bloodymindedness.

Find out how and why it all happened - in specially composed song, original poetry, storytelling and beautiful old photographs. And then enjoy the 45 minute stroll around the reservoir while you're with us.

Watch Ian sing one of his songs from The Reservoir Story - called The Dirty Dozen
